Blues Power Photo is a creation born of my life long passions for the blues, photography, and writing. Concentrating on the photography of nature’s beauty, I’ve traveled the United States from the streams of my home town on Long Island (N.Y.) to Olympic National Park in the state of Washington. Although I am proud of the beauty I have captured through my lens these past forty years… an idea had been simmering within me.
In the summer of 2010 I was stirred into action. Inspired by my friend, Monte “The Blues Stalker” Adkison, I set out on a blues pilgrimage to the state of Mississippi. The first stop of my journey was in Oxford at the University of Mississippi Blues Archives. The archives contain thousands of hours of recordings. Moving on I spent a few days meeting musicians and soaking up the history of the blues in Clarksdale Mississippi. Finally, it was off to Potts Camp for the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic. I was now a changed man. Arriving home after one week in Mississippi, I was hooked on the blues and there was no turning back.
Successive trips to the Sunflower Blues and Gospel Festival in Clarksdale, the Turner Family Picnic in Como MS, the Blues Music Awards in Memphis Tennessee, the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena Arkansas, and blues venues all over my current home state of Florida have exposed me to a mountain of blues music and culture. The personal stories, incredible music, welcoming smiles, and new friends have all left me with priceless memories. What began as a few summer vacations has become a series of year round journeys to experience the music, people, and places wherever the blues can be found.
I am living a dream and this web site is an opportunity to share it all with you.
